FAQ’s

Posted by AnneX under Uncategorized

1.  So, what’s the point of this site?

Basically, the idea is that only the best posts will be published.  Our hope is that it will feel like an honor to have something published here.  If you have something in your archives that you’re in love with—something you want to give more exposure to, we’d love to take a look at it.

Click here for a step-by-step guide to submitting a post.

And maybe you don’t really care about submitting something.  Maybe you’re just here to read.  Because we’ve raised the bar so high, you’ll know that every time you click on the site you’ll find a fantastic post, and maybe meet a writer that you otherwise might not have met.

2.  What is expected of “members”?

Everything and nothing.  Joining is free and easy.  All you need is to fill in the form here.  As a member, you’ll receive a link in our sidebar and you’ll be able to submit posts for review.  It’s really up to you— how involved do you want to be?

Along with this, though, is a plea to comment on people’s posts.  Obviously we don’t require you to comment on every post.  But, wow, wouldn’t it be great if you did?  Writers put their whole soul on the line.  The least we can do is say, “hey, this was a great post.”

3.  Who can join?

Anyone can join.  There are no categories here.  You don’t have to be a published novelist.  You don’t have to be a Mommy Blogger.  You don’t have to have a PhD in history.  You don’t even have to have freckles.  You do, however, have to be a human with a valid email address.

4.  What posts will be published?

The best posts.  I know that sounds very vague, but we don’t want to tie it down any more than that.  Can a post be funny?  You bet!  Can it be sad?  Sure.  Can it be touching?  Sweet?  Sappy?  Silly?  Scary?  Absolutely.  Just make it good.

Here are a few things that will improve your chances:

a.  Spell-check.  Make sure the grammar’s right.  Does it look good?  Does it flow well?  Check it, double check it, and check it again.  This doesn’t mean that every post that’s ever published has to be 100% correct.  It just means that we’d rather not wade through a sea of typos in an attempt to find your point.

b.  Keep it short.  Leave off intro’s.  Keep the rambling to a minimum.  Make every word matter.  Posts that are too long are often too daunting and people simply don’t want to read them.  OBVIOUSLY, there are exceptions to this, but in general, shorter posts are more profound, more interesting, and more likely to be read (and published).

c.  Make it different.  If everyone else has already said it, don’t say it again.  Be creative.  Be interesting.

d.  Keep it clean and kind.  Anything offensive, hateful, or overtly sexual won’t be published.  R-rated language won’t make the cut.

e.  Make it yours.  Plagiarism will not be tolerated EVER.

5.  How many posts can I submit?

None, thousands, or anything in between.  The more you submit, the more likely you are to be published here.  And isn’t it amazing that the more you write, the more you have to say?

6.  What if my best posts were already published somewhere else?

As long as they still belong to you, you can post them here, no matter how many other blogs/social networks they’ve been seen on.

(Of course, if you’ve sold the rights to someone else, they can’t be published here.)

7. How will I know if my post is going to be published?

Unfortunately, you won’t.  You’ll just have to keep checking back to see if it’s been published or not.  We won’t be able to send out acceptance or rejection letters…  Sometimes we won’t even know at first if your post will be published.  But a week later, we might see the perfect moment for it.

8.  If my post is going to be published, how soon will I see it on the site after submitting it?

This depends on many factors.  Sometimes it might be the very next day, sometimes it might not be for a few weeks.  So please be patient!  (Chances are good, though, that if a whole month has gone by and you haven’t seen it yet, it’s not going to be published.)

9.  If it’s clear that my post isn’t going to be published, can I re-work it and re-submit it later?

Absolutely.  But be patient.  Don’t re-submit until at least a month has gone by.  And then, when you re-work it, ask yourself why it wasn’t published the first time.  Is it too long?  Does it ramble?  Is it boring?  Is it a grammatical mess?  Maybe the idea behind the piece was great, it just needs some fine-tuning.

10.  If my post wasn’t published, should I throw myself off a cliff?

Yup.  Wait, I mean NO!  NO!  Don’t do that!  Please don’t take it personally if your post wasn’t published.  It doesn’t mean that we hated it or that we hate you.  It just wasn’t what we were looking for in that moment.  Please keep writing and keep trying!

Do you have a question that wasn’t covered here?  Go ahead and submit your question to us and we’ll get back to you.
